Undergame
by Fabien Fernandez

Her name is Maddy, but people call her Mad. She’s 16 and lives for e-sports. Most people look at her and see a nerd or even an autistic person. Mad sees her life as torn between her father’s absence and her dream of competing in the biggest e-sport contests.
Truth to tell, she’s better with machines than human beings. With the exception of “her”
Brian, who lives across the ocean. That’s where she’s headed soon: Las Vegas. That’s where the e-sport competition is held, with a huge jackpot in the balance and the chance to find a coach and sponsors. It’s also where her father works as head chef in one of the finest Vegas hotels. She hasn’t seen him for two years. Meanwhile, her mother’s new girlfriend Aline absconds with her on a low-tech trek, a real Stone-Age hike.
